Alter Aeon is a free multiplayer game with a custom world to explore, quests
to complete, and hundreds of puzzles to solve. There are always other players
on-line, whether for help, competition, or just to talk with. The game
is also blind-friendly for the visually impaired.
There is a place for everyone here. The brave of heart can trek to the edges
of world in search of fortune and fame, and sometimes bring home vast treasures.
Those less confident in their abilities can remain in safer or more protected
lands, or join up with others to reduce risk. Come test your mettle in the
world of Alter Aeon!
Players can connect to the game with one of our
custom clients,
or with regular telnet. Using the telnet protocol allows practically
anyone in the world to connect to the game, regardless of the type or
speed of their computer.

Once you've downloaded one of the clients, just start it up and you're ready to play!

What is Alter Aeon?
Alter Aeon is a Diku-like multiclass mud written entirely from scratch. It has a
huge custom world of over thirty thousand rooms, and has been open to all comers
since 1995. There's usually between twenty and one hundred players logged in at
a time. Player killing is optional, and several options are available to let
all players participate if they wish. The equipment, spells and skills are well
balanced.
Advanced and new players are both welcome. New players will find an extensive
support structure of Avatars, low level areas and quests specifically designed
for newbies, and extensive on-line help and FAQs.
We have also worked hard to make sure that advanced players aren't left out.
Most of the content in the game is designed for high level players, and there
is a world-wide waypoint system to aid in reaching far away zones. We also give
players more advanced controls than most muds, including built in aliases
that save with your character, while control-C can be used to halt executing
aliases and regain control of your terminal. We also natively support
variables and variable substitution in both regular commands and alias
expansions.

Alter Aeon's sister MUD
Banished Lands uses a similar codebase to Alter Aeon, but doesn't have as
many of the recent changes. Some of the areas are the same, but in general
