A brief History of Kindred

A long time ago, in a sedan far far away.. a few brave mudders dodged V.A.S.C.A.R.. Some years later this history was composed by the clan scribes, it is today the most complete & accurate telling of the clan kindred's annals (chronicles).

It is worth mentioning that many original members of the clans predating kindred have been omitted due to the lack of recollection of all.

From the dawn of Alter Aeon we came, moving silently through the centuries. In the primordial beginning there were no clans, no tribal organization beyond the random kinship developed between player and player. Life in this new age was brutally savage, and often painfully solitary. As time passed, in response to the feelings of isolation that resulted from being one of 3 people logged in at any given time, a new phenomenon arose. Lines were drawn, factions formed and allegiances were forged. Distinguished only by the resplendent "flags" which were beginning to dot the who-list, crude groups were taking shape, and it is from these meager beginnings that the mighty Clans of today sprang.

As clan structure evolved, mudders flocked to one banner or the next, seeking the vital interaction that is the ultimate strength, or weakness of any Clan. Common sensibilities, attitudes and ideologies form the foundation of any strong Clan, but there is no thread more vital to the tapestry than a desire to mud in a good world with good people. These are the values that the Kindred of today holds above all others.

The earliest Clans of note, that is to say those pre-dating the implementation of a structured clan-code, were DeeP, LEGION, and Harlequin. In time, as Clans were allotted rooms and items, PaRaDoX was formed as a wacky opposite to Clan DeeP's serious demeanor. They were hardy mudders and soon rivaled DeeP in size and mud wisdom. When the actual (as we know it today) clan code was installed, PaRaDoX disbanded, their members rallying to the banners of other clans. Two of their number, Sly and Squeak, opted to form a new entity in line with the values of lighthearted fun and general wackiness and thus Clan Ping was born. DeeP's leading members were Roan and Newbie, fast friends on the mud as well as in the world of Real Life. It was during one fateful road trip involving Roan, Newbie, Sly and Squeak that the decision was made to intermingle their numbers, combining DeeP's serious mudding attitude with Ping's devotion to friendship, resulting in an even stronger union known as VASCAR. At the same time that PaRaDoX was being dissolved, Legion was coming into its own as a force to be reckoned with. Legion, a strong consortium of mudders spearheaded by Sigil and Caliban, benefited from Caliban being in Wales as it soon added Eon to its roster.

This was a time of constant upheaval amongst the Clans. The fine line between love and war was tread. Many loyalties were strained as RL ties jockeyed against mud commitments for the upper hand. After much turmoil the obvious compromise was reached. Bitter infighting gave way to the rock solid friendship lying just beneath the roiling surface of what is now seen as a petty conflict. From the many of Legion to Vascar's proud number, a mixing of the bloodlines took place resulting in the steadfast progeny that is known today as Clan Kindred.

The last Clan to be absorbed into Kindred was Harlequin. Harlequin was Heart's answer to Kenai's formation of DeeP and initially culled its numbers from the savages of the northern wastes, namely from the badlands surrounding Homer, Alaska. Squeak was the first outsider to join the Clan and his conversion was a welcome one as it became his role to take the reins when Heart was on hiatus. Others soon followed suit and the lifeblood of Harlequin flowed rich and strong. When VASCAR and Legion set aside their differences and came together, Harlequin followed soon thereafter, resulting in a whole truly greater than the sum of its parts.

Each Clan's unique contribution has made Kindred what it is today.

As you can see, Kindred has a rich, complex history. Memories are plentiful, and each member carries with them a unique portion of what being a part of Kindred truly means. Our essence is one of solidarity, and in the end, we are one.

Our past is laid out here in fond remembrance, proudly awaiting the next glorious chapter.
